A bonus issue is when existing shareholders get extra shares in a certain proportion. A bonus issue occurs when a company converts its retained earnings or reserves into additional shares. Bonus Key Terms Explained

1. What is Bonus Ratio?

Bonus Ratio indicates how many additional shares a shareholder will receive for the shares they already hold. For example, a 1:1 bonus ratio means you get 1 Bonus share for every 1 share you hold in the same manner 2:1 bonus share means you get 2 shares for every one shares you hold.

2. What is ex bonus date?

The Ex-Bonus Date is the cut-off date decided by the stock exchange. If you buy the company shares on or after this date, you will not be eligible to receive the bonus shares. Only shareholders who hold the shares before the ex-bonus date are eligible.

3. What is deemed date of allotment?

The Deemed Date of Allotment is the official date on which the company allots shares to investors who subscribed in an IPO, rights issue, or bonus/other corporate actions. From this date, investors are considered the legal owners of the allotted shares, even if the shares are not yet credited to their demat account.
